How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates - Shailee ThompsonA hilarious, swoony and downright terrifying slasher rom-com about a movie fanatic who gets caught in the middle of a murder spree at a speed-dating event and must use her encyclopedic knowledge of the romance and horror genres to make it as a real-life Final Girl. For fans of Love in the Time of Serial Killers, Butcher & Blackbird and anyone who's always wanted to see the perfect mash-up of Scream and nostalgic 00s romantic comedies in a book. When Jamie’s best friend drags her to a speed-dating event, she knows what to expect . . . mediocre men and the opportunity to eat her feelings later. She’s not expecting a blackout and for her date to be gruesomely killed at their table. After the lights come back on, Jamie sees more bodies on the floor. Knowing there’s strength in numbers, she pulls together a band of would-be survivors to escape. Armed with makeshift weapons and Jamie’s extensive knowledge of what NOT to do in a slasher movie – starting with not splitting up – the group try to find a way out whilst the killer stalks them. But is he simply picking them off or is he playing some sick game to woo one of the daters and turn them into his real-life Final Girl? Nothing speeds up love like fighting for your life and Jamie somehow finds herself in a love triangle despite the potentially deadly consequences. Has she finally found true love or does the prospect of death via machete-wielding psychopath mean she’s already met her match? Speed Dating Trope Sheet Fatal flirting Trapped together in a nightclub Choose the survivor Review 'This thrilling debut romance, with touches of humour, is well-written and excellently plotted, and the many twists and turns keep the killer’s identity hidden until the very end' LIBRARY JOURNAL'Like a romcom twist on Scream, debut author Thompson’s unputdownable slasher-romance mash-up is a gripping and often gory high-stakes drama that leaves room for romance to blossom. It’s pure entertainment' PUBLISHERS WEEKLY (STARRED REVIEW)'Alternating romance, peril, chemistry and gore, this is an absolute romp through movie trivia Easter Eggs and fan-favorite tropes' ALEXIA CASALE'I laughed, I cried, I screamed. How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates is the slasher-romcom we never knew we needed in our lives' L.M. CHILTON'Fresh, funny and criminally addictive. I couldn't put it down!' HANNAH GRACE'Propulsive and cinematic, Shailee Thompson's How to Kill a Guy in Ten Dates kept me guessing until the very end. Reading this book was like hanging out with a friend who has the most perfectly curated movie references and witty commentary on both the horror and romcom genres. The only thing that could make a speed dating event worse would be to turn it into a killing spree, but from the safety of my own couch I had a blast with this slasher-romance mashup' ALICIA THOMPSON'Leading Lady or Final Girl? That’s the question in this delightful debut . . . Thompson does an admirable job of keeping the reader guessing – and second-guessing – right up until the end. A delightful celebration of romcoms, slasher flicks and the women who love them' KIRKUS REVIEWS (STARRED REVIEW) About the Author Shailee Thompson is a writer and educator based in Brisbane, Australia.
