Ancient History of the Maori, his Mythology and Traditions - White, John
This compilation of Maori oral literature was commissioned in 1879 by the New Zealand government to help preserve indigenous traditions. The ethnographer John White (1826-91) collected the texts and provided accompanying English translations. Volume 6 (1890) describes wars between Maori factions and against Europeans, and also documents ritual genealogies.
